Charlie Puth and Brooke Sansone may have tied the knot in California, but their home state of New Jersey still felt the love at their wedding.

The newlyweds, who both grew up in the Garden State, shared their first dance to a live Meadowlands recording of “Jersey Girl” sung by Bruce Springsteen—serving as a tribute to the origin of their love story, according to a new Vogue article about the pair’s September nuptials.

“Our fathers attended elementary school together, and we both grew up in New Jersey,” Brooke, who works in marketing and public relations, tells the magazine. “There was always a spark and chemistry between us, but the timing never seemed to work out—until it did. It’s like an invisible string was always there, showing us that timing is everything.”

Charlie, a singer/songwriter known for hit tunes like “See You Again,” grew up in Rumson.

Charlie, 32, and Brooke, 25, got married outdoors at his parents’ picturesque Montecito, California, home.

The couple, who started dating in 2022, hosted a weekend of festivities, kicking things off with a rehearsal dinner at the famed San Ysidro ranch, followed by welcome drinks on the tennis court at Charlie and Brooke’s own Montecito home.

The September 7 ceremony took place in Charlie’s parents’ driveway in front of an olive tree that Brooke loves. The ceremony was “super simple,” as Brooke puts it, without florals but with “Jacquemus-inspired stools as the focal point.”

Ever the music lover, Charlie surprised Brooke by having Kanye West’s Sunday Service Choir sing “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith when she walked down the aisle, followed with a rendition of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” after the pair exchanged vows. One of Charlie’s friends officiated.

“I wanted our wedding to marry tradition with modern unconventionality,” Brooke says. “I wanted each detail to feel relaxed yet perfectly, thoughtfully curated. Serving mini hotdogs on silver platters, for example, was more than just a fun detail. It was a reflection of my love for styles that blend the refined with the playful.”

The bride wore a custom strapless Danielle Frankel gown, featuring hand-painted flowers, and had two other outfit changes throughout the night. Charlie, meanwhile, wore a fashion-forward custom Bode suit with a shirt embroidered with meaningful phrases like their wedding date and “melon,” which is Brooke’s nickname for him.

After a cocktail hour featuring live music from Baila Nova, a martini cart serving espresso, lychee, and dirty martinis, and cocktail napkins featuring the couple’s handwriting, guests entered the tented reception. Brooke’s goal? To make it feel like a cool new restaurant, as she told Vogue.

“I chose a bold blue carpeted floor which matched our invitation liner and opted for bare tables without linens to let all of the details be the main moment,” Brooke says. “I didn’t want any overhead lighting so we went with chrome table lamps and scattered floor lamps for a softer ambiance. I loved the idea of placing butter mounds on the tables alongside fresh sourdough to create a cozy, dinner-party atmosphere—it’s my favorite part of dining at a restaurant.”

Other unique wedding details included plates with a horse emblem, guests’ names embroidered on the napkins, an invitation suite inspired by love notes and the couple’s real handwriting, a carrot cake (their favorite), and late-night snacks including french fries in custom “Brooke + Charlie” packaging.
